The Sass Bar Update | Shark Tank India Season 1

The Sass Bar makes vegan, artisan body soaps with visual designs pressed into the bars. Rishika Nayak Shetty started the brand in 2019 with ₹25,000 and built it from home before scaling to a small team. The soaps are handcrafted, skin-safe, and positioned in the gifting and lifestyle segment rather than mass personal care.

The Pitch

Rishika asked for ₹40 lakhs at 8% equity, implying a ₹5 crore valuation. Monthly revenue at the time was around ₹6 lakhs, with annual FY22 revenue near ₹30 lakhs.

The pitch covered the gifting and aesthetic soap market, which Rishika argued was underdeveloped in India. The Sass Bar wasn’t competing on price with mass-market soaps. It sold primarily through its own D2C channel and at gifting events.

The sharks liked the product but found the valuation hard to justify against the revenue numbers. Anupam Mittal and Ghazal Alagh were interested but wanted a much larger stake for the same amount.

What the Sharks Said

Anupam Mittal and Ghazal Alagh made a joint offer: ₹40 lakhs for 40% equity. They also put a condition on Rishika to focus solely on body soaps and not spread into adjacent products. After some back and forth, the deal landed at ₹50 lakhs for 35% equity. Rishika accepted.

What Happened After

The deal closed after the show. Monthly sales moved from ₹6 lakhs pre-show to between ₹10 and ₹20 lakhs after the episode aired. Ghazal Alagh later invited Rishika to a mentorship program for founders, confirming the investment relationship was active.

The Sass Bar stayed focused on its core soap line per the terms of the deal.
