Get-A-Whey Update | Shark Tank India Season 1

Get-A-Whey makes high-protein, low-fat ice cream using whey protein. Jimmy Shah and Jash Shah started the brand after their mother, Pashmi Shah, came up with the concept while trying to find a dessert that fit her fitness routine. The ice cream has about four times the protein of regular ice cream and significantly fewer calories. It launched as a D2C brand targeting health-conscious consumers who didn’t want to give up dessert.

The Pitch

The founders asked for ₹1 crore at 8% equity, valuing the company at ₹12.5 crore. Revenue before the pitch was around ₹2.5 crore annually. The pitch argued that the functional ice cream category in India didn’t really exist and Get-A-Whey had first-mover advantage in a space that was growing rapidly in the US and UK.

The product had won the “Product of the Year” award at the Channelier FMCG Awards in 2022 before the show, giving the founders some validation beyond their own sales numbers.

What the Sharks Said

Ashneer Grover pushed for higher equity, countering at 15% for ₹1 crore. The founders came back with two alternatives: ₹1.5 crore for 15%, or ₹1 crore for 12%. Ashneer held at 15% for ₹1 crore. Vineeta Singh and Aman Gupta joined in, and the three-shark deal closed at ₹1 crore for 15% equity.

What Happened After

The deal with all three sharks closed. Post-show, the business scaled fast. Revenue crossed ₹8 crore after the episode aired, up from ₹2.5 crore before. By FY24, annual revenue had reached ₹14.8 crore.

The company rebranded to Get-A-Way. Bollywood actress Malaika Arora came on as a strategic investor and brand ambassador in 2023. The brand expanded to over 200 cities and launched new products including ice cream sandwiches and popsicles. Distribution grew to 45+ active locations across India.
